3 Hidden Dangers Homeowners Should All Be Aware Of
By The Good Greek

Homeowners know the importance of maintaining their properties. Not only are you protecting your investment, you’re also making your home safe for yourself and your family. Here are three things to keep an eye out for that can cause serious damage to your home or health.

Water Damage

Water damage can happen almost anywhere in your home for different reasons. Water can penetrate your home’s exterior or you could have leaky pipes, a flooded basement or any number of other water-related accidents inside.

As long as it’s dried quickly, water damage shouldn’t occur. The biggest problem with water damage is that you sometimes can’t see it. Hidden water damage can cause problems with the structural integrity of your home as well as allow for the growth of mold and mildew, which isn’t safe for you and your family.

It’s a good idea to have an annual plumbing inspection to make sure that everything is flowing as it should. And, if you notice any changes in water pressure or quality, you should always get a professional involved quickly.

Pests

Depending on where your home is located, you could find yourself battling any number of pests. If you see any unwanted critters, it might be time to get an exterminator involved.

  • Ants: If they get inside, they’re looking for food. Carpenter ants can be especially hazardous for your home since they eat wood.
  • Mice: The best way to keep your home free of mice is to make sure that there aren’t any gaps where they can get inside. Mice can fit through very narrow openings, and they will search for ways to get inside.
  • Cockroaches: The signs of cockroaches can be hard to pick up on, but you should always be on the lookout. If you see one cockroach in your home, there are likely many more hidden out of sight.

Radon

Radon is a radioactive gas that’s naturally emitted from under the ground, and it can occur anywhere, causing serious health issues. Your best protection against radon poisoning is to have a radon detector in your home. You can’t stop its production, but you can reduce the amount of radon that gets inside of your home.

These are just a few of the things that can cause damage to your home or threaten your health at home. The key to avoiding these issues is awareness. Luckily, there is a fix for almost anything as long as you discover the problem soon enough.
