3 Tips for Organizing Your Garage in Your New Home
By The Good Greek

Parking a car in your home’s garage is the best way to keep it safe from the elements. An attached garage is also the way most folks gain entry to their homes. This is why keeping the garage organized is essential. You don’t want any clutter or items falling down and damaging your car or creating a safety hazard for your family entering into your home. A few simple organizing tips can prevent that from happening.

Use the Totes from Your Move

A garage has a finite amount of storage space. You can expand that space by utilizing the walls and ceilings for shelving. You’re already at an advantage by having some of the durable totes you used in the move. Those can be used to store items like tools, seasonal clothing, or sporting equipment. Shelving can be built down from the ceiling of a garage in a kind of loft space. You can also attach shelving to a wall. Just be sure to measure the width of your car and the shelving to make sure everything will fit. The totes can slide on and off those shelves with ease.

Organize Your Tool Boxes

The right tool for a job will only help if you can actually find that tool. A tool box is a good start for keeping tools where they belong. You can organize your tool box by creating foam inlays for each individual tool. Those inlays would also work great if you have a workbench with drawers. It will be easy to work with the foam to create custom cutouts for all your tools. There won’t be any excuse from the family for not putting a tool back in its proper place.

Put Up Pegboard

If one wall in your garage holds shelving, then the other wall can hold a pegboard. This allows you to create hanging storage options for everything from a weed whacker to a bicycle. Pegboards also have a lot of flexibility in the ways you can arrange the hooks. You want to make sure the board is firmly secured to the garage wall in order to support the weight of any object you want to hang up.

You should never feel embarrassed about opening your garage door. Organizing all the items in the garage will give you better access to those tools and will promote safety for the family. Better yet, get professional help from Good Greek Moving & Storage! We offer secure storage units that are monitored by CCTV and use a computerized inventory tracking system for all items stored.
